One of the most iconic works of art by the famous Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, is this yellow pumpkin on Naoshima island. Naoshima is one of the Japanese islands known for its modern art museums, architecture and sculptures. Dotted in black, the pumpkin stands on a pier facing the famous Benesse museum and overlooks the Seto Inland Sea with the surrounding islands as a backdrop. After taking this photo, I transformed it into a black and white image, while keeping the pumpkin’s original colours. My intention was to enhance the striking presence of the scuplture and to attribute the peaceful and artistic feel that is present on the island with its stunning museums and works of art.
